New and Renewable Energy Sources
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy or MNRE is a ministry of Government of India. The ministry is headed by Farooq Abdullah, a Cabinet Minister. The ministry was established as the Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources in 1992. It adopted its current name in October 2006.The Ministry is mainly responsible for research and development, intellectual property protection, and international cooperation, promotion, and coordination in renewable energy sources such as wind power, small hydro, biogas, and solar power.
