A Delhi court has rejected the bail plea of five accused, including four policemen, allegedly involved in accessing Call Detail Records (CDRs) of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley and others.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Amit Bansal dismissed the bail application of the five accused, private detective Puneet Verma, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Gopal Dass, Head Constables Harish Singh and Raj Kumar, and constable Harish Kumar.

The court said that investigation in the case is at an initial stage, and if out on bail, the accused may tamper with evidence.

arun jaitley“The allegations against the applicants (accused) are very serious in nature. The applicants, in a deliberate manner, and in conspiracy with other accused, violated the right of privacy of various persons thereby impinging upon their fundamental right of life and liberty as enshrined under Article 21 (protection of life and personal liberty) of the constitution of India,” the court said.

Earlier, police had filed a charge sheet against a constable and three private detectives in the same case. But the four of them were granted bail by a Delhi court May 30.
