Beep song: court summons Simbu, Anirudh

In fresh trouble for Tamil actor Simbu and music composer Anirudh Ravichandran, facing cases over a controversial beep song, a court here today ordered them to appear before it on March 21.

Judicial Magistrate Rajkumar gave the directive when a petition by local pro-Dalit outfit Arundhatiyar Munnetra Kazhakam, seeking the arrest of the two for allegedly using vulgar language against women in the song, came up for hearing.

Directing the duo to appear before the court on March 21, the Judge adjourned the matter to that date.

Cases have been filed against Simbu and Ravichandran in a police station here and in Chennai in connection with the song allegedly rendered by them.

Acting on a complaint by All India Democratic Women Association that the song allegedly denigrated women, Race Course Police here have issued summons to the duo to appear before them for questioning. While Anirudh appeared before the police on January 12, Simbu has sought one month’s time.

Anirudh in his statement to the police contended that he was not the composer of the song which has come in for strong criticism from several women organisations over the lyrics used in it.

Simbu had unsuccesfully moved the Madras High Court seeking to quash the case. His anticipatory bail plea too was disposed of with a direction to move the appropriate court for regular bail.

The actor had also withdrawn a petition in the high court seeking a direction to the state Director General of Police to insruct the police stations not to register more FIRs on the same issue.
