The Delhi government has written to the chief justice of the Delhi High Court urging him to set up fast track courts for ensuring speedy justice to rape victims, state Women and Child Development Minister Kiran Walia said Thursday.

“I have already written a letter to the chief justice of Delhi High Court, urging him to set up nine designated fast track courts – one each in nine districts of Delhi – to ensure justice to the rape victims,” Walia told reporterd here.

She said that the city government has appointed 17 women protection officers to save women from domestic violence.

“These women protection officers have been provided with the cell phones so that they may immediately be contacted by the victims of the domestic violence,” she said.

The Delhi government will open nine shelter homes for destitute and pregnant women, one in each district in the capital. Two such homes have already been opened in Jahangirpuri and Sarai Rohilla areas.

The state government has also launched the ‘Awaz Uthao (Raise your voice)’ campaign, exhorting women to come forward and raise their voice against harassment.

Walia said that 80 women panchayats have been formed all over Delhi to resolve miscellaneous disputes affecting women.
