The Delhi Judicial Service (DJS) Association Saturday asked the Delhi High Court intervene and take action against lawyers who went on strike earlier this week.

Lawyers of all the district courts had abstained from work March 11 protesting against corruption in the judiciary.

The DJS Association, in its letter to acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Madan B. Lokur and the law and justice ministry, condemned the bar association’s action of calling the strike and also requested the high court to take suitable measures to control the “menace”.

Also, the strike by lawyers have been regularly declared illegal by the Supreme Court, they added.

“The association is anguished over the manner in which imputations have been levelled by generaliding and trivialising the entire issue,” the association said in a press release.

At a meeting of the bar associations earlier this week, it was decided that lawyers will approach the government to bring appropriate legislation to curb corruption and transfer of jurisdiction for providing fair and speedy justice.
