Ex-Deputy Mayor facing cheating charge agrees to marry woman

In a victory to a woman who filed a cheating complaint accusing him of begetting a baby girl on the false promise of marrying her, former Deputy Mayor of Tiruchirappalli Asik Meera today agreed to marry her following which Madras High Court granted him anticipatory bail.

Meera, son of former Tamil Nadu Minister Mariam Pitchai, filed an affidiavit in the Madurai Bench of the court agreeing to marry the woman Durgeswari on whose complaint police had filed a marry.

Durgeswari, who was also present in the court, expressed her willingness to convert to Islam and marry Meera on the condition that he would marry her publicly and also register the marriage at the local Jamath.

Justice P.N.Prakash in his order said as the petitioner had given an undertaking to marry the woman as per law and maintain her and her child through him, he was granting bail.
