After two decades of probe and trial, a special CBI court has convicted former Director General of Mines Safety Captain Brij Nandan Singh for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The court has sentenced him to undergo five years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 2 lakh on him, a CBI spokesperson said here today.

“CBI had registered a case on January 17, 1996, U/s 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of PC Act, 1988, against Singh, then Director General of Mines Safety, Dhanbad,” the spokesperson said.

She said it was alleged that Singh, while posted as DGMS, had amassed huge assets in his name and in the name of others/benami and was in possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 41.70 lakh during October 15, 1990 to June 30, 1995.

“After investigation, a charge-sheet was filed on August 27, 2001 and supplementary charge-sheet on July 20, 2006… in the Court of Special Judge for CBI Cases, Dhanbad against Singh who was found in possession of disproportionate assets of Rs 37.74 lakh during the said check period,” she said.
