The Delhi government Friday told the Delhi High Court that the Global Positioning System (GPS) is operational in 100 buses and would be installed in 1,000 more buses in four months’ time.
Delhi government counsel Meera Bhatia told a division bench of Justice Vikramjit Sen and Justice A.K. Pathak earlier this week that 100 buses with GPS facility are already on the roads in south Delhi and the government will make this system operational in 500 DTC and 500 Blueline buses soon.
This information was given after the court, earlier this week, had asked the government about the status of installation of GPS in buses on the city roads.
Taking suo motu cognizance of the increasing number of accidents by Blueline buses in the city in 2008, the high court directed the government to fix guidelines and discontinue the “killer” buses from the roads.
The bench, however, has extended the Blueline operators permits for another four months
