The Supreme Court, Tuesday, rejected Gujarat government’s plea asking the Supreme court to stop monitoring the trial in the 2002 riot cases.
Gujarat government’s counsel Mukul Rohtagi had told the court that according to the rules, monitoring should come to an end after the chargesheet.
However, theSupreme court bench headed by Justice DK Jain said that the trial was being monitored by the Special Investigation Team for the last two years and there was no change in circumstances to go back on that decision.
Although, the court has rejected the plea but clearly, the Narendra Modi-led government seems to have taken a cue from the central government’s position in the 2G case.
The central government has asked the Supreme Court to stop monitoring in the 2G scam case as the chargesheet has already been filed by the CBI in the trial court. The government has taken the position that monitoring should come to an end after filing of the chargesheet.
