The Bombay High Court has allowed M/s Leading Hotels Limited (LHL) to continue with the construction of two model villas as per licences granted to the company for its Tiracol Golf and Resort Project in North Goa.

A high court bench in Goa comprising Justice F M Reis and Justice K L Wadane while hearing a plea of Goa Foundation and others yesterday, declined to give the petitioners any interim relief as sought by them.

Instead, it gave a go ahead to the project proponent, M/s Leading Hotels Limited (LHL) for continuation of construction work of the two villas in the area falling under the survey no 5/6.

Advocate Norma Alvares, appearing on behalf of Goa Foundation, had sought stay on the entire project.

The high court bench also permitted felling of requisite number of trees required for enabling this construction along with a permission of using the existing access road parallel to the state boundary.

In its submission to the high court, LHL submitted the proposed development plan of the project and made a suo motu commitment that it will not undertake any development activity in any disputed area.

All such development currently being undertaken by LHL will, therefore, be subject to the final verdict of the court.

The LHL counsel also assured the court that there will be no displacement of people due to the project.

The two villas, for which the permission to continue construction have been granted by the court, will comprise around 720 square metres, which is around one per cent of the total approved area.
