Himachal Pradesh HC takes cognisance of plight of disabled, job aspirants

Suo motu cognisance of a letter written by Chairman of an NGO has been taken by the Himachal Pradesh High Court on the Plight of disabled students and job aspirants during job search.

Taking cognisance of the letter written by Umang Foundation chairman Ajai Srivastava, the High Court directed the Principal Secretary (Education), HP Board of School Education, HP University, YS Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry at Nauni, CSK Krishi Vishvavidyalaya at Palampur, NIT Hamirpur, HP Public Service Commission and HP State Subordinate Services Selection Board to file replies within six weeks.

The division bench comprising acting Chief Justice R B Misra and Justice Rajiv Sharma observed that the matter was of public importance and appointed Ajay Mohan Goel as amicus curiae to assist the court.

The petitioner has prayed to direct the government to implement the provisions of the policy guidelines for conducting examination of people with disabilities circulated by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.

The policy contains guidelines for engaging scribes or students and job aspirants in Himachal Pradesh who are blind, low vision or orthopedically disabled and are unable to write by hand due to disability.
