A tribunal here Thursday sentenced Jharkhand’s Inspector General of Police Nirmala Chaudhary to 15 days of rigorous imprisonment for ordering her bodyguards to beat up a judge in 2008.
The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) also slapped a fine of Rs.2,000 each on the eight policemen involved in the case.
Chaudhary had allegedly misbehaved with CAT Judge B.V. Rao at Khukri guest house here and called him a terrorist.
Chaudhary, a 1985 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, had then asked her bodyguards to thrash him.
After the incident, she was sent to the Ranchi Institute of Neuro-Psychiatry and Allied Sciences (RINPAS) for treatment.
She later lodged a complaint against her husband Amitabh Chaudhary, also an Inspector General of Police, for harassing and abusing her.
She is at present posted in the vigilance wing of the Jharkhand State Electricity Board.
The Supreme Court in August 2008 had asked the CAT, Ranchi, to take up the case.
