Former Haryana minister and prime accused in the Geetika Sharma suicide case, Gopal Kanda, who is on the run moved the Delhi High Court on Monday seeking anticipatory bail. This move came four days after a lower court dismissed Kanda’s bail application, terming allegations against him as
Claiming that he had nothing to do with the suicide, Kanda alleged that Geetika’s suicide on August 5 was “not the handy work of a sound mind but that of a confused and frustrated individual”.
Meanwhile, a lower court in Delhi extended the police custody of Aruna Chaddha, co-accused in the suicide case, by three days and allowed police to quiz her till August 16.
“There is nothing in the FIR or the suicide note saying that the applicant ever goaded, urged, prompted, incited or encouraged the deceased to commit suicide. The deceased was victim of her own inability to deal with the normal wear and tear of life and ordinary petulance, tensions and ups and downs of one’s existence,” said Kanda’s anticipatory bail plea, filed through senior lawyer KTS Tulsi.
Kanda contended that the deceased was a person of hypersensitive nature who was unable to deal with the ordinary petulance or strike a balance between her personal life and work ethics.
Kanda owns MDLR Airlines, where 23-year-old Sharma was earlier employed.
Kanda said that he was willing to abide by all conditions imposed by the high court if granted bail.
“I am ready to join investigation as and when required by the investigating agency,” said the application.
Dismissing his bail plea, additional sessions judge Rajnish Bhatnagar had, on August 10, said “allegations against Kanda are grave and serious in nature, there are allegations of calls being made from other phones and SMSes have been sent to her… all this is required to be investigated thoroughly. The investigation is at a very initial stage and release of accused (Kanda) would hamper the investigation”.
