Controversial godman Nityananda was on Thursday granted bail by a Karnataka court in a case of causing hurt and criminal intimidation last month.

District Judge Komala (who uses only one name) heard Nityananda’s application at Ramanagara, about 30 km from Bangalore, and granted him bail.

The case was filed against him by a local news channel for causing hurt and criminal intimidation at a media conference June 7.

“Nityananda will be released from police custody on depositing a surety (bond) of Rs.50,000 as directed by the court,” Public Prosecutor Mohan Kumar told reporters outside the court.
