Madras HC vacates stay on construction of actors’ forum building

The Madras High Court today vacated its stay on the construction of a building of actors’ forum Nadigar Sangam in T Nagar area here.

A bench of justices N Kirubakaran and V Parthiban vacated its interim stay imposed on May 6.

The bench had stayed the construction on a plea by two local residents, who had alleged encroachment of a road in T Nagar locality by the Nadigar Sangam Charitable Trust and the South Indian Artistes Association (SIAA) for constructing the building to house multiplex theatres.

On the residents’ plea, the court had appointed earlier an advocate-commissioner to examine with assistance from the government authorities if the proposed building of ‘Nadigar Sangam’ was to encroach the road.

After perusing the report of the advocate commissioner and other documents produced by the actors’ body today, the court observed that the petitioners had made out no prima facie case and vacated the stay.

The petitioners had alleged that the ‘Sangam’ had blocked a road used by residents of the locality for building a commercial complex for the association.

The foundation for the building was laid last April with a number of stars, including top actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan attending the event.
