A court here has acquitted a man of the charge of raping a girl on the false pretext of marriage after noting that the victim had turned hostile.

Additional Sessions Judge Sidharth Sharma let off a Delhi resident in the case as it also noted that the girl deposed before the court that she and the accused are now married and living together.

“Keeping in view the testimony of material witness, i.e., girl and the fact that she herself has not confirmed the commission of alleged offences by the accused, I am of the considered opinion that prosecution has failed to prove the charges against the accused and therefore, he is entitled for acquittal,” the court said.

According to the prosecution, the girl had claimed in her complaint that she was in a love affair with the accused and he made physical relations with her repeatedly on the pretext of marriage and due to which she got pregnant.

However, later accused refused the to marry her, she claimed in the FIR registered on February 17, 2014, alleging that the accused committed rape upon her several times at different places.

Thereafter, accused was arrested and a charge sheet was filed against him.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.
