Man gets life term for murdering paramour

A 28-year-old man was today sentenced to life imprisonment by a court here for murdering a woman with whom he had an illicit relationship.

III Additional Sessions Judge A. Kayalvizhi held A. Ravikumar, an employee of a mobile service provider, guilty of murdering his paramour in a gruesome manner after she refused to hand over her jewels to him.

She also slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on the accused.

According to the prosecution, Poongothai, married to a Railway employee, was murdered by Ravikumar on September 5, 2008 after she refused to part with her jewels.

On a complaint from the brother of Poongothai, police registered a case against Ravikumar under Sections 380 (theft in dwelling house) and 302 (punishment for murder) of IPC.

On completion of the trial, session’s judge Kayalvizhi said the prosecution has proved the case beyond doubt.

The judge awarded seven years of rigorous imprisonment for committing the offence (theft) under Section 380 of IPC and life imprisonment for offence under Section 302. The sentences will run concurrently.
