The Calcutta High Court today rejected the bail prayer by former Union Minister Matang Sinh, an accused in the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.
A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Nishita Mhatre and Justice Tapas Mookherjee rejected the bail prayer of Sinh, who sought to be enlarged as he had been in custody for a long time and was suffering from several ailments.
The CBI counsel opposed the bail prayer, submitting that the investigation against him was yet to be completed and that releasing him on bail at this stage would hamper the probe.
Sinh, a former MP from Assam, had been arrested by the CBI in January, 2015 for alleged criminal conspiracy, cheating and misappropriation of funds related to Saradha Realty, one of the companies of the Saradha Group, which is being investigated by the agency.
