Orissa High Court to re-examine its November 18 order on transferring 124 students of Sardar Rajas Medical College to other colleges.

At least two students each from Burla and Berhampur-based government medical colleges and one student from dental wing of SCB Medical College here moved the bench of Justices Indrajit Mahanti and D P Choudhury yesterday with the plea.

In their petitions, the students objected to the transfer of students of the Sardar Rajas Medical College, the licence of which had been cancelled by the Medical Council of India, to their colleges saying these students were ranked much below in the AIPMT merit list.

In a major relief to 124 students of Sardar Rajas Medical College of Kalahandi, the High Court on November 18 directed the state government to adjust the medicos in other government and private medical colleges to enable them complete their unfinished course.

The High Court agreed with MCI’s suggestion and directed the government to adjust the students under government quota to Burla and Berhampur government medical colleges and those admitted under management quota to be transferred to three private colleges at Bhubaneswar.

The state government earlier expressed its reservation over MCI’s suggestion saying that the shifting of students to a government medical college would give unfair advantage to these students and the same would run counter to “principles of equality” as many students ranked above them in AIPMT were deprived of this advantage.
