New Delhi, North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL) has been ordered by a district consumer forum here to pay compensation of Rs 30,000 to a senior woman citizen for delay in restoring power supply to her.
The woman, Kaur, in her complaint had alleged that she had a power connection at Alipur from NDPL to irrigate an agricultural land in the village.
The woman said she had paid electricity bills regularly till November 2005 after which she received no bill despite an official visiting her premise to record the reading.
Kaur claimed that NDPL officials disconnected the electric supply in her absence without serving any notice to her.
She also said she deposited charges for re-connection on February 27 but despite this, power supply was not restored.
The North West Delhi district consumers disputes redressal forum asked NDPL, a joint venture between Tata Power Company and city government, to pay compensation to Kaur after holding it guilty of “deficiency of service” and delay in restoring power supply to her premises by several days despite payment of the due amount in time.
The forum, headed by its president Rakesh Kapoor, rejected NDPL”s submissions that the electric meter could not be energised due to Kaur”s resistance, saying the plea “appears to be false and an after thought”.
“The opposite party (NDPL) has tried to explain the delay in restoring electric supply to the meter in question by taking up the plea showing that the complainant (Kaur) had resisted the restoration of electric supply. This appears to be false and an after thought.
