NIA charge sheets three in Mysuru blast

The NIA today filed a charge sheet against three men for their alleged involvement in a blast in Mysuru court premises last year, and claimed they had formed an outfit ‘Base Movement’ to further the objectives of banned terror group Al Qaeda.

The charge sheet was filed in a special NIA court here against Nainar Abbas Ali alias Appas Ali(28), Samsun Karim Raja alias Karim alias Abdul Karim (23) and S Dawood Sulaiman (23 for carrying out the blast.

The NIA said the investigation has revealed that the explosion at the Mysuru Court premises was carried out by the accused as part of a larger conspiracy under which the outfit “Base Movement was formed and blasts were carried at five different court premises in South India.

Threatening letters were also sent to various jails, senior government functionaries, the Dinamalar newspaper office and the French consulate, the NIA alleged.

During the investigation, it has been established that Abbas Ali had formed the outfit with the intention to further the objectives of the proscribed organisation Al Qaeda and he recruited other four accused with a view to commit terrorist and anti-national activities, the NIA said in a press release.

“The accused persons together conspired to conduct terrorist activities by exploding bombs at various places in the country and had targeted the judiciary,” it said.

In furtherance of that conspiracy, they had assembled improvised explosive devices on many occasions and had placed them in different court premises with the intention to terrorise people, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) said.

One such occasion was the incident of the exploding of the bomb at Mysuru court complexes on August 1, 2016, by them, it said.

The accused of the outfit Base Movement exploded Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) at the Chittoor court premises in Andhra Pradesh on April 7, 2016, at Kollam Court premises in Kerala on June 15, last year, at Nellore court premises on September 12, 2016 and at Malappuram Court in Kerala on November 1, 2016.

The cases other than the Mysuru blast case are being investigated by the respective state police agencies.

The NIA is also looking into the alleged involvement of Mohammed Ayub and Samsudheen Karuva, who had been arrested by the agency, in this case, the release said.
