Nusli WadiaIndustrialist Nusli Wadia will depose before a city court on June 30 in a 23-year-old-case of attempt to murder on him. The sessions court on Monday fixed the date of deposition of Mr. Wadia. The prime accused in the 1991 case is Kirti Ambani, a senior executive of Reliance Industries Limited who reported directly to Mukesh Ambani.

During the last hearing on April 30, the court had passed an order allowing Mr. Wadia’s application seeking recording of his statement. The industrialist’s application was opposed by the accused. But the court had observed that it would not be “reasonable and in the interest of justice to prevent the applicant (Mr. Wadia) from adducing evidence when his evidence is relevant and essential for the just decision of the case.”

Mr. Wadia had alleged in his application that though a conspiracy was hatched to kill him, the prosecution had failed to record his statement. He had claimed that his deposition was important to throw light on the motive behind the conspiracy. “It is contended that no attempt is made by the prosecution to lead any evidence to establish the motive for the crime, therefore it is in the interest of justice to give opportunity to the applicant to lead evidence, otherwise grave prejudice will cause to him,” the April court order had stated.

The CBI court had charged Kirti Ambani and others for criminally conspiring to murder Nusli Wadia of the Bombay Dying group, a prime player in the textile business.
