The Supreme Court was moved Monday by an activist from Maharashtra seeking direction to anti-corruption campaigner Anna Hazare not to launch an indefinite fast from Aug 16 to press his demands on the Lokpal bill.

Hazare’s demands were unconstitutional and amounted to intrusion in the legislative domain of parliament, said petitioner Hemant Patil, a businessman-cum-social activist.

Hazare announced his resolve to fast over his demand for a strong anti-graft bill and bringing the prime minister under the purview of the lokpal.

The petition said that Hazare’s demand for the inclusion of higher judiciary within the ambit of the Lokpal bill infringed upon the constitutional scheme of judicial functioning.
