Protest against Hooda: Vijay Goel, 3 others get bail

Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Goel and three leaders of BJP’s youth wing were today granted bail by a Delhi court in a case pertaining to violation of prohibitory orders while leading a protest in 2013 at the residence of former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Metropolitan Magistrate Akash Jain granted bail to Goel and the three Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leaders on furnishing personal bond of Rs 5,000 and one surety of like amount each.

The court also framed charges against all the four accused of violation of section 144 (prohibitory orders) of CrPC and posted the matter for further hearing on August 1.

Goel, now BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan, and the BJYM leaders Jai Prakash, Gaurav Khari and Aadesh Kumar Gupta were present in the court room, following the summon orders issued earlier in the case.

On May 19, 2013, BJP youth wing workers led by the then party’s Delhi unit president Goel had courted arrest while protesting at the residence of Hooda demanding release of Delhi’s share of water allegedly held back by the state.

Goel and the BJYM leaders were later taken to Parliament Street police station and case was lodged against them for violating prohibitory orders.

While addressing supporters at Hooda’s residence, Goel had alleged that every year water crisis hits Delhi in its worst possible form during summers and the government has never been ready with any water management plan.

Goel had then claimed that the poor water supply in Delhi was benefiting the tanker mafia which has become a multi- million rupees industry in the last 15 years.
