An industrialist in Jaipur was Friday sentenced to one year in prison for offering to bribe a local police inspector ten years ago, police said.

A special court for anti-corruption cases in Jaipur handed out the sentence to Om Prakash Mundara, owner of Mundara Enterprises.

“He had offered money to a circle officer (CO), Jhotwara, in 2001 to lodge a case under sections of SC/ST Atrocities Act,” a police officer told IANS.

He added that the circle officer, Umendra Singh, complained about the offer of bribe to the state’s anti-corruption bureau (ACB).

“An ACB team trapped Om Prakash offering the bribe. He was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act and arrested,” the officer added.

The court has also imposed a fine of Rs.5,000 on the convicted.

The officer said it was a rare case in Rajasthan in which someone who offered the bribe was arrested and convicted for the act.
