The Madras High court today ordered status quo with regard to acquisition of lands for the coal based power plant at Upoor in Ramanthapuram district.
A division bench of the court’s Madurai bench, comprising Justice Nooty Ramamohana Rao and Justice S S Sundar, was hearing a petition filed by R.Kalimuthu, a land owner.
The petitioner sought a court direction to quash the amendment made by the state government in 2015 to Right to Fair
Compensation and Transparency Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement act of 2013.
He also wanted stay on land acquisition besides stay on giving environment clearance based on an application made by the state energy secretary and Tamil Nadu Electricity Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) chairman for the 2×800 mw project.
The bench ordered status quo on land acquisition and giving environment clearance.
