For quick disposal of cases, the Guwahati High Court Monday began introducing video conferencing systems with its benches spread across six northeastern states.
Among all high courts in India, the Guwahati High Court is the second high court after Delhi High Court that has introduced the new systems of court trial on a regular basis.
It would be operated by the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
‘With this new system of trial and administrative works, the litigants will be immensely benefited. It will also save both time and money to get quick justice and prompt disposal of cases,’ Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Madan B. Lokur told from Guwahati after formally introducing the system.
Judge Lokur said: ‘Under the e-court scheme, the Supreme Court had taken the decision long back to introduce the video conferencing systems between the apex court, high courts and district courts across the country.’
The Agartala bench of the Guwahati High Court is the first among six benches of the northeast that has introduced video conferencing systems, with its principal bench in Guwahati.
