The incident took place in 2006 when Sangeeta, on her way to Connaught Place with her husband on a motorcycle, was waiting at a traffic signal at Shadipur Depot. Suddenly, a bus driven rashly by Brijesh Kumar hit the motorbike from behind, running over her legs.

Sangeeta”s husband too received injuries in the accident and the couple were rushed to hospital, where she had to undergo amputation.

“It is prima facie clear that the accident in the case had taken place with the offending vehicle driven by its driver due to his rash and negligent driving causing serious injuries to Sangeeta,” the judge said.

Sangeeta, who suffered 70 per cent disability in the mishap, told the court that apart from amputation of her legs, she had undergone several surgeries for debridement and skin grafting of her legs.

The judge noted that all the medical bills of the victim were paid by her employer IOC and said “therefore, I am not inclined to grant any amount under this head.”
