An Act to provide for a change in representation in the Legis-
\nlative Assembly of Nagaland and for that purpose to make consequential amendments in the State of Nagaland Act, 1962 and the Representation of the People Act, 1950.<\/p>\n
BE it enacted by Parliament in the Nineteenth Year of the
\nRepublic of India as follows:-<\/p>\n
1.Short title.<\/p>\n
1.Short title. This Act may be called the Legislative Assembly of
\nNagaland (Change in Representation) Act, 1968.2.Change in representation in the Legislative Assembly of Nagaland.<\/p>\n
2.Change in representation in the Legislative Assembly of
\nNagaland. For the period referred to in clause (2) of article 371A of the Constitution, the total number of seats allotted to the
\nLegislative Assembly of Nagaland shall be increased FROM forty-six to fifty-two, of which-<\/p>\n
(a) the seats allocated to the Tuensang district shall be increased FROM six to twelve and shall be filled by persons chosen by the members of the regional council, referred to in that article, FROM amongst themselves in such manner as the
\nGovernor of Nagaland, after consulting that council may, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify, and<\/p>\n
(b) the remaining forty seats shall be filled by persons chosen by direct election FROM assembly constituencies in the rest of the State of Nagaland.<\/p>\n
3.Amendment of Act 27 of 1962.3.Amendment of Act 27 of 1962. In the proviso to sub-section (1)
\nof section 11 of the State of Nagaland Act, 1962,-<\/p>\n
(i) for the figures ” 46 “, the figures ” 52 ” shall be substituted;<\/p>\n
(ii) for the words “six seats”, the words ” twelve seats ”
\nshall be substituted.<\/p>\n
4.Amendment of Act 43 of 1950.<\/p>\n
4.Amendment of Act 43 of 1950. In the Representation of the
\nPeople Act, 1950,-<\/p>\n
(a) in the proviso to sub-section (1) of section 7,-<\/p>\n
(i) for the word “forty-six”, the word “fifty-two”
\nshall be substituted ;<\/p>\n

(ii) for the words “six seats”, the words “twelve seats” shall be substituted;<\/p>\n
(b) in the Second Schedule, in the entries relating to “11.Nagaland “, in column 5, for the figures ” 46 “, the figures
\n” 52 ” shall be substituted.<\/p>\n
5.Saving as to present Legislative Assembly.<\/p>\n
5.Saving as to present Legislative Assembly. Nothing in this Act shall affect any representation in the present Legislative Assembly of
