Supreme Court stayed proceedings in all High Courts challenging the Bar Council of India (BCI) rules putting a cut off of upper age limits for admission to five and three-year course for law degree across the country.

The BCI, an apex body of lawyers, has approached the Supreme Court against the notices issued by various HC on petitions challenging its rule providing an upper age limit of 20 years for five-year course for Bachelor of Law degree and 30 years for three year LL.B course.

The Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Categories candidate are provided with two and five years relaxation for appearing in the two courses.
