Those days the handloom sector in Kerala depended on other States for its raw material i.e. Yarn. This proved to be a large burden for the profitability of the Sector. Thus the leaders in the field collectively conceived a Spinning Mill in the Co-operative Sector. The foundation stone of the Cannanore Co-operative Spinning Mills Ltd, (CCSM) was laid at Chovva, Kannur by the then Hon. Minister for Industries, Sri. K P Gopalan on 10th Nov 1958. The Plant was later inaugurated by H.E. Governor Sri. V V Giri on 30th Apr 1964. The Mill was registered as a Co- operative Society under the Madras Co-operative Societies Act of 1932.
