Home ministry officer charge sheeted for leaks

Delhi Police filed a charge sheet against suspended union home ministry officer Ravi Inder Singh, accused of allegedly leaking sensitive information to unauthorised people, in a court here Saturday.

The 2,343-page charge sheet was filed before Special Judge Sangeeta Dhingra Sehgal. The next hearing is slated for Jan 29.

Police have sought prosecution of Singh and Vineet Kumar, CMD of Kolkata-based Temptation Food Pvt Ltd, under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act dealing with criminal conspiracy, destruction of evidence and bribing a government official.

The recorded transcripts of conversations of Singh and co-accused Kumar have been included in the charge sheet, police said.

Singh, who was working as director (internal security) in the union home ministry, and Vineet Kumar, who was allegedly acting as a middleman for him, were arrested Nov 23.

Vineet Kumar obliged the officer as in return he wanted information about security clearance of a file relating to Britain-based firm Telcordia Technologies Inc., police claimed.

The IAS officer looked after a division that, among other things, handled the row over security concerns related to BlackBerry.
