The prayer made in this writ petition is for issuance of a writ of

mandamus or any other appropriate direction to the respondents to

appoint sufficient number of santhies in Arakkal Devi Temple in

Policode sub group of the Kottarakkara group of the Travancore

Devaswom Board. The first petitioner is the Kshethra Upadesaka

Samithy and the second petitioner is its president. It is averred in the writ

petition that the temple is getting huge income from Bhandaram as also

by way of vazhipadu. Petitioners rely on Ext.P3 report made by the

Assistant Devaswom Commissioner showing the income of the temple

for the year 2007-08. Going by Ext.P3, it can be seen that the temple is

having good income for the past three years. According to the

petitioners, now there is only a part time santhi and they have already

made a request for sanctioning a full time santhi in the temple. They are

aggrieved that their request is not yet considered.

2. We have heard both sides. In the facts and circumstances of the

WP(C)20107/2008 :2:

case, there will be a direction to the Commissioner, Travancore

Devaswom Board, to consider Ext.P2 request and pass appropriate

orders. Petitioners may also be heard in the matter. Order shall be

passed as expeditiously as possible, at any rate, within a period of

one month from today.

Issue photo copy urgently.
