In 1996, general elections to the SGPC were held after a gap of 17 years and in 1979, after a delay of 14 years. <\/p>\n<p>Since 1966, all amendments \u2013 substantive and procedural are carried out by a mere notification of the Home Ministry in consultation with the SGPC.\n<\/p>\n<p>The popular will of the sikhs, as expressed by resolution of the SGPC are the yardsticks to be followed by the Ministry of Home Affairs and this has been the case all along. As per the provisions of the Act, the elections are to be held after every five years. The term of the present Committee was over in September 2001, but elections have not been held so far.\n<\/p>\n<p>In the interest of justice to the Sikhs, I request that ;  The elections to the SGPC should be held without delay.
