I would like to draw the attention of the House and to the Home Minister through you, Sir, that police opened fire on peaceful farmers in Visakhapatnam district on 2nd December 2002. \u2026 (Interruptions) <\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=SHRI%20K.%20YERRANNAIDU%20\">SHRI K. YERRANNAIDU <\/a>(<a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=SRIKAKULAM\">SRIKAKULAM<\/a>): Sir, this is a State subject. \u2026 (Interruptions)\n<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=SHRI%20S.%20JAIPAL%20REDDY%20\">SHRI S. JAIPAL REDDY <\/a>: The farmers were agitated, asking for release of water from the Revada reservoir. \u2026 (Interruptions) The farmers were asking for water. \u2026 (Interruptions) They could have been spoken to. As a result of this brutal police firing, two farmers were sustained bullet injuries. \u2026 (Interruptions) 22 rounds have been opened. I may also tell you that one former Member of Lok Sabha, Shri Konathala Ramakrishna was taken into custody along with hundreds of other farmers. \u2026 (Interruptions)\n<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=SHRI%20K.%20YERRANNAIDU%20\">SHRI K. YERRANNAIDU <\/a>: Sir, it is a State matter. Please do not allow him to raise it here. \u2026 (Interruptions)\n<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=SHRI%20S.%20JAIPAL%20REDDY%20\">SHRI S. JAIPAL REDDY <\/a>: Sir, false cases are being foisted upon the farmers. This is the illustration of police brutality. \u2026 (Interruptions)\n<\/p>\n<p>The latest instance is the policy of brutal oppression pursued by the Andhra Pradesh Government against farmers. \u2026 (Interruptions)\n<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=%20%0A%0ASHRI%20K.%20YERRANNAIDU%20\"> <\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=SHRI%20K.%20YERRANNAIDU%20\">SHRI K. YERRANNAIDU <\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/a>: Sir, the rules do not permit him to raise this matter here because it is a State subject. There were many precedents in this House. The Speaker\u2019s rulings were there on this. \u2026 (Interruptions) <\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=SHRI%20S.%20JAIPAL%20REDDY%20\">SHRI S. JAIPAL REDDY <\/a>: Sir, a few months back, the farmers were subject to a similar firing in Hyderabad city and four farmers succumbed to bullet injuries. \u2026 (Interruptions)\n<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=SHRI%20K.%20YERRANNAIDU%20\">SHRI K. YERRANNAIDU <\/a>: Without knowing the ground realities, they want to raise this issue here. \u2026 (Interruptions)\n<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=SHRI%20S.%20JAIPAL%20REDDY%20\">SHRI S. JAIPAL REDDY <\/a>: Sir, this situation in Visakhapatnam could have been avoided if the Government had spoken to the farmers and taken them fully into confidence. \u2026 (Interruptions)\n<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=SHRI%20K.%20YERRANNAIDU%20\">SHRI K.
