The petitioner seeks a mandamus to direct the<\/p>\n<p>                   respondents to issue him the Passport for which<\/p>\n<p>                   he had applied on 30.11.2007.\n<\/p>\n<p>(2).               On       instructions    from   the   Passport      Officer,<\/p>\n<p>                   Jalandhar, learned counsel for respondent No.1<\/p>\n<p>                   states that as soon as the recommendations from<\/p>\n<p>                   the police authorities would be received, the<\/p>\n<p>                   petitioner shall be issued the Passport subject to<\/p>\n<p>                   fulfillment of other eligibility conditions.<\/p>\n<p>(3).               Sh. Sidhu, learned DAG Punjab, on instructions<\/p>\n<p>                   from Bakshi Ram, Sub Inspector, states that<br \/>\n<span class=\"hidden_text\"> CWP No.17588 of 2010.doc                                              -2-<\/span><\/p>\n<p>                   several criminal cases were registered against the<\/p>\n<p>                   petitioner and as per the police report the<\/p>\n<p>                   petitioner has been acquitted in 10 cases but the<\/p>\n<p>                   latest status of other 7 cases is unknown.<\/p>\n<p>(4).               Learned counsel for the petitioner, on the other<\/p>\n<p>                   hand, contends that in the remaining cases also,<\/p>\n<p>                   the petitioner has already earned acquittal from<\/p>\n<p>                   the Appellate Court and that not even a single<\/p>\n<p>                   case his conviction has been upheld. According to<\/p>\n<p>                   him, no other criminal case is pending against the<\/p>\n<p>                   petitioner who is stated to be an octogenarian.<\/p>\n<p>(5).               In the light of their respective but categoric stand<\/p>\n<p>                   taken by the parties, the writ petition is disposed<\/p>\n<p>                   of with a direction to the Senior Superintendent of<\/p>\n<p>                   Police, Kapurthala, to verify the status of the<\/p>\n<p>                   remaining    criminal     cases     registered\/pending<\/p>\n<p>                   against the petitioner and if it is found that the<\/p>\n<p>                   petitioner has already been acquitted in all the<\/p>\n<p>                   cases, a report\/recommendations to this effect<\/p>\n<p>                   shall be made to the Regional Passport Officer,<\/p>\n<p>                   Jalandhar forthwith, who, within a period of one<\/p>\n<p>                   month   from    the     date   of   receipt   of   such<\/p>\n<p>                   recommendations\/report from the police, shall<\/p>\n<p>                   issue the Passport in favour of the petitioner.<\/p>\n<p>(6).
