SPEAKER<\/a>: Shri Malhotraji, can I make a statement from the Chair? Statement is not on this matter.\u00a0 This is my usual weekly statement.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>Hon. Members, I do not wish to take away any hon. Member&#8217;s right.\u00a0 You have your rights.\u00a0 I acknowledge those rights.\u00a0 The only thing is that you should speak in a regulated manner. You have every right to speak.\u00a0 Sometimes, the Speaker has a little right to speak too!\u00a0 This is a good report.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 (Interruptions)\n<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=MR.%20SPEAKER\">MR. SPEAKER<\/a>: Hon. Members, for your information, I want to briefly recapitulate the main items of business transacted by the House during the last week.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Out of 100\u00a0 Starred Questions admitted, only 22 could be answered orally.\u00a0 Replies to the remaining Starred Questions along with the replies to 1025 unstarred Questions were laid on the Table.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>The House\u00a0 discussed one\u00a0 Adjournment Motion moved by Shri L.K. Advani, hon. Leader of the Opposition on 28.11.2005 regarding \u201cthe Central Government\u2019s failure to take proper action against the Indian entities and individuals allegedly involved as non-contractual beneficiaries\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0United\u00a0 Nations\u00a0 \u2018Oil \u2013 for &#8211; Food Programme in Iraq, as reported in the Report of the United Nations\u2019 Independent Inquiry Committee (Volcker Committee) and its efforts to cover up these serious crimes\u201d.\u00a0 The motion was discussed for five hours and 50 minutes and negatived. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>The House also took up two Calling Attention matters : (i) \u201csituation arising out of reported shortage of LPG\u00a0 in the country\u201d raised by Shri Mahadeorao Shiwankar;\u00a0 and (ii) \u201csituation arising out of spread of Encephalitis in the country\u201d raised by Shri Yogi Aditya Nath.\n<\/p>\n<p>During the period, as many as 76\u00a0 matters of urgent public importance were raised.\u00a0 Also, 69\u00a0 matters were\u00a0 raised under Rule 377.\n<\/p>\n<p>As regards, the Legislative Business, the House discussed the\u00a0Punjab General Sales Tax (As in force in the Union Territory of Chandigarh) Repeal Bill, 2005\u00a0 for about 35 minutes before\u00a0 it was passed.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The House also discussed the National Tax Tribunal Bill, 2005\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 for two\u00a0hours and 56 minutes before the Bill was passed.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Besides, the House took up combined\u00a0 discussion on\u00a0 the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2005 and the State Emblem of India (Prohibition of Improper Use) Bill, 2004 for about one\u00a0 hour and 21 minutes.\u00a0 The discussion\u00a0\u00a0 was not concluded.\n<\/p>\n<p>The House also took up a Short Duration Discussion under Rule 193 regarding on the Statements laid on the Table of the Lok Sabha by the hon.
