Panchganga river water is used for irrigation as well as drinking purpose by people of Kolhapur city and numerous villages on the bank. However, due to insufficient drainage treatment plant, river water is heavily polluted causing serious health problems in the city of Kolhapur as well as rural area downstream. Government of Maharashtra has forwarded the plans to Central Government to appoint consultant to National River Action Plan.
