KARUNAKARAN <\/a>(<a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=KASARGOD\" id=\"a_1\">KASARGOD<\/a>): I would like to draw your kind attention to the problems faced by the people of Kerala due to the reduction of quota of electricity from the unallocated central pool. From the quota allotted to the State, 133 MW of electricity was cut down from April 2007 and about 50 MW from December 2007. In the meantime, the consumption has increased by 150 MW. The demand is likely to increase to the tune of 2,800 mw by the peak season of summer. But the availability including central pool quota will be around 2400 mw, which is short by 400 MW. This will result in heavy load shedding. The Electricity Board is not in a position to purchase electricity at Rs 8.75 &#8211; Rs 9.00 per unit direct from generating plants.
