{"id":5988,"date":"2006-07-28T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2006-07-27T18:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/judgments\/regarding-selection-for-the-post-of-un-secretary-general-on-28-july-2006"},"modified":"2018-11-18T02:19:12","modified_gmt":"2018-11-17T20:49:12","slug":"regarding-selection-for-the-post-of-un-secretary-general-on-28-july-2006","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/judgments\/regarding-selection-for-the-post-of-un-secretary-general-on-28-july-2006","title":{"rendered":"Regarding Selection For The Post Of Un Secretary-General. on 28 July, 2006"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"docsource_main\">Lok Sabha Debates<\/div>\n<div class=\"doc_title\">Regarding Selection For The Post Of Un Secretary-General. on 28 July, 2006<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<pre><\/pre>\n<p>                                          &gt; <\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=Title%20\">Title <\/a>:  Regarding selection for the post of UN Secretary-General.   <\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=SHRI%20ADHIR%20CHOWDHURY%20\">SHRI ADHIR CHOWDHURY <\/a>: Sir, I would like to draw the attention of the House towards the fact that the people of the world are going to witness a significant global front in recent months whereby the General Secretary of the United Nations will be selected.\u00a0 India has been pitching hard for its own nominee, Shahsi Tharoor, for this post.\u00a0We are well aware that after U Thant of Myanmar, no Asian has been represented in the United Nations.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>India is such a country which has taught the world one mantra, \u2018live and let live\u2019.\u00a0The great Mahatma has preached the world that there is a weapon which is called non-violence.\u00a0 It was invented to fight the tyrant which had at that time inspired the liberation movement throughout the world.\n<\/p>\n<p>Already the selection process has been gathering steam.\u00a0 It has been informed that\u00a0 the informal note, that is Straw Poll, Shashi Tharoor has been ranked second.\u00a0The selection process will continue till October.\u00a0 We will urge upon the United Nations Security Council Members, which include 15 Members, to select our nominee Shashi Tharoor as the Secretary General of the United Nations.\u00a0 In this regard I would also urge upon the House to pass a Resolution and convey it to the members-countries so that they push their buttons in favour of encourage for Shashi Tharoor.\n<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=MR.%20CHAIRMAN\">MR.
