{"id":62168,"date":"2008-03-17T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-03-16T18:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/judgments\/reported-indefinite-hunger-strike-by-employees-of-sbi-foreign-deptt-on-17-march-2008"},"modified":"2019-03-03T11:45:06","modified_gmt":"2019-03-03T06:15:06","slug":"reported-indefinite-hunger-strike-by-employees-of-sbi-foreign-deptt-on-17-march-2008","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.legalindia.com\/judgments\/reported-indefinite-hunger-strike-by-employees-of-sbi-foreign-deptt-on-17-march-2008","title":{"rendered":"Reported Indefinite Hunger Strike By Employees Of Sbi Foreign Deptt. &#8230; on 17 March, 2008"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"docsource_main\">Lok Sabha Debates<\/div>\n<div class=\"doc_title\">Reported Indefinite Hunger Strike By Employees Of Sbi Foreign Deptt. &#8230; on 17 March, 2008<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<pre><\/pre>\n<p>                                          &gt; <\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=Title\">Title<\/a>: Reported indefinite hunger strike by employees of SBI Foreign Deptt.\u00a0 for redressal of their grievances.   <\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=SHRI%20AJOY%20CHAKRABORTY%20\">SHRI AJOY CHAKRABORTY <\/a>(<a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=BASIRHAT\">BASIRHAT<\/a>):\u00a0 Through you, I want to raise a very important issue in this august House.\n<\/p>\n<p>The employees and officers of the Foreign Exchange Department of the State Bank of India have started an indefinite hunger strike in Kolkata protesting the decision of the management to shift the Foreign Exchange Department from Kolkata to Mumbai.\u00a0\u00a0 Everybody knows and you also know that Kolkata was the Head Office of the State Bank of India earlier.\u00a0 Then the Government of India took a decision to shift the Headquarters from Kolkata to Mumbai.\u00a0\u00a0 But it was decided that the Foreign Exchange Department will run from Kolkata to serve all parts of India and abroad.\u00a0 But subsequently, the management took a decision with an ulterior motive to shift the Foreign Exchange Department\u00a0 from Kolkata to Mumbai.\u00a0 As a result, the employees and the people have started an agitation throughout the country.\u00a0 Even the State Assembly of West Bengal unanimously took a decision not to shift the Foreign Exchange Department of the State Bank of India from Kolkata to[MSOffice90]\u00a0 Mumbai.\u00a0Ultimately, they entered into an agreement.\u00a0 It was decided in the agreement, made in January 2000, that fifty per cent of the work will be done by the Forex Department of the Kolkata office of the SBI and the remaining fifty per cent will be done by the Forex Department of the Mumbai office of the SBI.\u00a0In spite of that agreement, now the management, with an ulterior motive, has taken a decision to shift the remaining fifty per cent of the work also from Kolkata office to Mumbai office.\u00a0Kolkata office is working very efficiently and is earning a lot of money.\u00a0 But in spite of that they have decided to shift that.\u00a0 As a result, the employees, officers and staff have started an indefinite hunger strike against this decision.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We support the demand of the employees and officers of the Forex Department of the SBI, Kolkata.\u00a0 We urge upon the Government of India to intervene in the matter so that the remaining fifty per cent of the work can be done by the Kolkata office of the SBI.\u00a0The status quo should be maintained.\u00a0 Thank you.\n<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=MR.%20CHAIRMAN%20\">MR.
