Moopnar sitting member of Rajya Sabha on 30th August, 2001. <\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=%20%0A%0AMR.%20DEPUTY-SPEAKER\"> <\/p>\n<p><a class=\"marker_ref\" href=\"\/search\/?formInput=MR.%20DEPUTY-SPEAKER\">MR. DEPUTY-SPEAKER<\/a><\/a>: Hon. Members, I have to inform the House of the sad demise of Shri G.K. Moopanar, a sitting Member of Rajya Sabha who passed away in the early morning today at Chennai at the age of 70 after a brief illness. <\/p>\n<p>Shri Moopanar was one of the senior-most Members of Rajya Sabha. He was elected to Rajya Sabha four times in 1977, 1983, 1995 and 1998. <\/p>\n<p>He was also a Member of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 1989 to 1991.\n<\/p>\n<p>An able parliamentarian, Shri G.K. Moopanar was a Member of Committee on Railways since 1998. He has aptly been described as an institution and his contribution to parliamentary proceedings was monumental. <\/p>\n<p>Shri Moopanar worked relentlessly for the uplift of the poor and downtrodden. He worked hard for propagating national integration.
