A teacher was today awarded 11 years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 65,000 by a local court for kidnapping and raping a 13-year-old student.
Ganjam District and Sessions judge Malay Ranjan Das slapped the fine on Prasant Kumar Patra of Digapahandi and ordered Rs 75,000 compensation to the victim.
The VIII standard student was kidnapped by her tuition teacher when she was on her way to attend his class on September 9, 2014.
He kept her in captivity for two days during which he raped her and then abondoned her at a high school in Ananagapur.
Police arrested the accused after the victim lodged an FIR against him and started investigation.
The police had declared it as a red-flag case and state crime branch police monitored the investigation.
A special public prosecutor (PP) was appointed by the government for the quick disposal of the case.
The man was convicted after hearing 13 witnesses.
