Two persons were sentenced to life imprisonment by acourt here for murdering a taxi driver last year and fleeing with his vehicle.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Basrrudin held Naresh and Praveen, both residents of village Kirara here, guilty of the murder of taxi driver Surender of Niyoli Kalan.

It slapped a fine of Rs.1 25 lakh on them and directed that 95 per cent of the amount would be paid as financial assistance to the victim’s family.

According to prosecution, the two hired a taxi of Surender from Old Government College ground Hisar for Barwala on March 5, 2014. On the way, they killed Surender and dumped his body in a field in Niana village before fleeing with the taxi.

Later, Naresh and Praveen were arrested on the basis of call details.

During interrogation, both had confessed to committing the crime.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court found both guilty and awarded them life imprisonment.

Two minors were also allegedly involved in the murder and their case is pending in juvenile court here.

In another decision, Additional District and Sessions Judge S K Sharma sentenced Vijay alias Gappa of Juglan village and Vijay alias Kala of Khanda Kheri village to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of Sukhbir.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 30,000 on Gappa and Rs 25,000 Kala. They would have to undergo imprisonment for one year each if they fail to pay the fine.

According to prosecution, Gappa called Sukhbir from his house and took him away in his vehicle. It was alleged that Kala was also present in the vehicle.

Sukhbir was shot dead on October 24, 2012 and his body was thrown in Baddopatti canal.

The police recovered the body after a few days.

Folowing a complaint, a case was registered in Barwala Police Station.
