Adjournment is a disease and a disorder and young advocates should try to get out of it, Supreme Court JJustice Dipak Misraudge Justice Dipak Misra on Saturday said while kick-starting a five-day workshop organised by the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD).

Advising young lawyers to be confident yet humble, he said, “Adjournment is a disease, a disorder. Young lawyers should try to get out of the disorder. There is a need to feel confident, competent, yet inadequate, as it makes you humble. Humility is the first step to learn.”

The Judge was delivering his address at the inaugural function of the workshop, which will train fresh law graduates enrolled with the BCD in areas of Civil Procedure Code, Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) over the next five days.

Addressing a group of over 60 lawyers at BCD’s office in Siri Fort area here, the Judge asked them to get inspired by eminent jurist Nanabhoy Palkhivala and read his work and propositions.

“His arguments were proposition oriented. Propositions on law must be founded on facts. I would like you to go through his work,” the Judge said.

Delhi High Court Judges, Justice Pradeep Nandrajog and Justice R S Endlaw also imparted knowledge to the young lawyers on the Civil Procedure Code.

BCD Chairman and advocate K K Manan, said, “There is no substitute for hard work. Such skill based workshops are the need of the hour to train young lawyers in practical aspects of basic provisions of civil and procedural law and also to fulfil the demand of the industry in areas related to IPR law.”
