Allahabad HC orders inquiry into alleged fraud in recruitment at UP

The Allahabad High Court today ordered an inquiry into allegations of fraud in the recruitment of review and assistant review officers at the Uttar Pradesh assembly secretariat during the Samajwadi Party’s tenure.

A division bench of justices A P Sahi and D S Tripathi directed the UP Legislative Assembly’s Principal Secretary to conduct the inquiry into the alleged fraud in the recruitment process that took place during 2015-16.

The court passed the order while disposing of petitions filed by Deepak Kumar Rai and 18 others who had alleged irregularities in the recruitment process.

The petitioners had furnished details of six persons who got selected despite their names not being in the list of successful candidates.

The petitioners had also alleged that among the successful candidates, nearly a dozen belonged to Itwa tehsil of Siddharth Nagar district and were said to be close to an SP leader.

The petitioners’ counsel R P Sinha also pointed out that the interview of “as many as 1,113 candidates was conducted in just four days, which means on an average 278 candidates were interviewed in a single day”.

“Also, in the final list, the cut-off marks and the caste status of successful candidates were not disclosed. One of the candidates was only 19 years old at the time of filling up of forms, and hence not eligible to appear in the tests,” he added.
