The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested two directors of a Bhojpuri Mahuaa TV channel for obtaining loans to the tune of about Rs.100 crore from three nationalised banks allegedly on forged documents.

It is alleged that the Mahuaa television channel directors forged invoices and certificates from Chartered Accounts, against which they applied for loans from nationalised banks for business expansion. After the fraud was detected, the banks lodged complaints in January.

The CBI took up investigations and arrested the two directors of Mahuaa channel a couple of days ago. They were produced in a special court that granted their police custody to the agency for interrogation. After their remand period expired on Monday, the agency produced them before the court that sent them to 14 days’ judicial custody.

The group, which had recently launched two Bhojpuri and two Bengali news channels, was in the news earlier this year for having failed to pay up interest against loans obtained from some banks.
