The Allahabad High Court Friday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the alleged rape of two minors by four policemen inside a police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district.

The court has directed the CBI to complete its investigation within three months and submit its report to the court.

According to officials, on April 15, 2010, two minor sisters were allegedly raped by four policemen and a village head inside the Kuber Sthan police station in Kushinagar, some 300 km from Lucknow.

As police did not register any complaint against the five accused, the victims’ mother Nageena Devi moved the district court. Later on the court’s orders, Kushinagar’s superintendent of police registered a case against the accused.

However, the police started mounting pressure on Nageena Devi to withdraw her case and she moved the Allahabad High Court, seeking strict action against the policemen.

Acting on the court’s directions, the Kushinagar police chief had earlier withdrawn the accused policemen from their field posting, but when the court expressed its displeasure, he suspended the police personnel.

Expressing its dissatisfaction over the non-arrest of the accused including the village head, the court ordered the case be handed over to the CBI.
