The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the West Bengal government to pay compensation to all the victims of Nandigram police firing in 2007.

The state government told the apex court that it had paid compensation only to those who were not involved in violence against the police.

The apex court bench, headed by Justice RV Raveendran directed the state government to pay compensation to all the injured or raped, irrespective of its claim of their involvement in violence against police.

On March 14, 2007, 14 people were killed and over 100 injured in police firing while protesting against the land acquisition for a special economic zone (SEZ) in Nandigram.
