Dismissing a PIL petition filed against the unveiling of Thiruvalluvar statue at Ulsoor, the Karnataka High Court gave a free hand to the State Government to initiate action against organisations and persons, including the petitioners, if they organised any bandh or agitation against the function scheduled for Sunday.
A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran and Justice V.G Sabhahit, passed the order on the petition by Kannada Vatal Chaluvali Paksha leader Vatal Nagaraj, former legislator Prabhakara Reddy, Kannada Rakshana Vedike (Shetty faction) president Pravin Kumar Shetty and Dalit leader Murthy seeking a stay on the unveiling of the statue.
The petitioners contended that no statue could be installed in a park or a public garden as per the provisions of the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act and Preservation of Parks Act.
